Local Leaders gain an appreciation for the job of Firefighters

Mayor Jackson , Safety Director Flask and members of City Council were in attendance for the CFD Media Day- members of the media and City Administrators have an opportunity to don protective firefighter equipment and battle a fire at the Cleveland Fire Training Academy.

Busy start to 2012 for Cleveland Firefighters

  • 1/17/12- Assisted East Cleveland with building fire
  • 1/24/12-Rope rescue of trapped civilian workers in Tremont
  •  1/24/12- Building Collapse on Brookpark rd in Old Brooklyn
  • 1/26/12- Rescued trapped civilian at house fire in Collinwood
  • 1/26/12- 3 occupants removed from Apt fire in Westpark
  • 1/31/12- Rescued civilian trapped underneath vehicle in Lee/Harvard neighborhood
  • 2/1/12- Rescued civilian from Apt fire in Old Brooklyn
  • 2/1/12- CFD transported victims from Stockyards house fire
  • 2/1/12- House fire in Cudell neighborhood. CFD transported 1.

 

A brief list of the Services provided by the
Cleveland Firefighters


1. Fire suppression and rescue of victims trapped by fire

2. Pre hospital medical treatment and transport by State of Ohio Certified Firefighter EMT's and Firefighter Paramedics.

3. Technical rescue service
(High angle rescue, Trench rescue, Water rescue, Confine space rescue, Divers for both rescue and recovery operations)

4. Hazard Materials Emergency mitigation

5. Life saving Smoke detectors

6. Fire prevention bureau

7. Arson investigation unit

8. Public Education

9. Staff and operate the Fire Dispatch Center

10. Elevator rescue

11. Respond to mo
tor vehicle accidents and operate the
"Jaws of   Life"to remove trapped victims

12. Assist other city services in gaining entry into structures and vehicles

13. Removal of victims who are trapped in machinery

14. Year round Community Charitable work

Took the Civil Service Entrance Exam in 1998

Finally hired in 2009 (Fire Academy Graduation Pictures)

Laid off in January, 2010

Laid off again; in May, 2011

 

(Several vacancies exist in the Fire Dept, but the city has not been filling them with our laid off members)
